Which platform produced the value? What units, measuring range, imprecision, interference profile, and quality controls apply?
For clinicians and researchers
MMP-7 may add meaningful evidence when evaluating infant cholestasis, but the result remains assay-specific and clinically contextual.
Published studies across multiple populations have reported higher serum MMP-7 concentrations in biliary atresia than in non-biliary-atresia cholestasis. Large cohorts and systematic reviews support further clinical integration and standardization.
MMP-7 should be treated as an adjunct to—not a substitute for—fractionated bilirubin, laboratory assessment, imaging, pathology where obtained, and definitive evaluation directed by pediatric hepatology and surgery.
Decision thresholds are not automatically transferable among ELISA, bead-based, TR-FRET, point-of-care, or other platforms. Calibration, analytical range, age distribution, disease spectrum, preanalytical conditions, and validation population all matter.

Which platform produced the value? What units, measuring range, imprecision, interference profile, and quality controls apply?
How old is the infant? What comparator population informed the laboratory’s interval or decision threshold?
Does the result agree with conjugated bilirubin, stool color, ultrasound, trajectory, and the complete differential diagnosis?
